This month WebPT was highlighted in an OVUM Report titled, “The Ambulatory EHR Competitive Landscape:Prominent Market Factors.” We are proud to be in the company of other well-recognized EHR vendors such as Allscripts, eClinicalWorks and Vitera Intergy. The report written by OVUM analyzes the ever changing factors within the EHR landscape and provides recommendations to providers approaching EHR implementation.
Who is OVUM and why do they matter? OVUM is an international research and advisory firm that specializes in advice on the commercial impact of technology & market changes in telecoms, software and IT services. With over 150 analysts covering a broad set of technologies and markets across the globe, OVUM provides data on the latest trends and innovations.
There seems to be plenty of research on EHR implementation within the hospital space, but the niche-market players (especially therapists) have been left out of much the discussion. The OVUM Report gives recommendations to the niche players on what the trends currently are in choosing an EHR.
Based on the report, trends seem to point to providers being better at articulating their individual needs for their practices and that the EHRs that respond to the provider’s individual needs will be the most successful. (Dear members, we’ve taken note of this at WebPT. Have you checked out the Idea Portal lately?).
OVUM has some recommendations for vendors looking for an EHR solution:
-Carefully Assess All Options: Finding the perfect EHR solution for your practice takes a lot of research. It’s definitely best to review as many options out there and find the best fit for your practice.
-Weigh the Pros and Cons of Service Delivery Model: You have probably heard of server-based vs. web-based options but what is best for your practice? You ultimately have to do the research and find what is best for your practice. However, the OVUM report states “On-demand (web-based) is a superior choice for many practices, especially for small-to-medium practices that often lack the resources to regularly employ IT staff, perform the required maintenance, and purchase and ensure adequate security. In addition, the pricing models tend to be more convenient and affordable for ambulatory practices.”
Fortunately, WebPT meets a lot of the criteria mentioned within the report. It is web-based with unlimited customer support for the lifetime use of the software, has automatic upgrades every six weeks, and offers month-to-month per-provider pricing with no contracts. If you are in the process of choosing an EMR for your practice, we understand it is a lofty decision with many factors to weigh. Choose wisely.
